Faulty FTDI USB adapters on ebay

This post is a replication of my post on the OEM website a wile ago, but maybe useful for some visitors

I bought an USB to UART (FTDI) adapter on ebay (Ebay USB to UART CP2102 module) so my energymonitor would be a bit cheaper than a stock one from the OEM shop. Well that wasn’t a good idea after all! I did get all sort off strange connection errors to my Arduino (NanodeRF).

Finally after a lot of google-ing and testing I found the solution, it’s stupid but the ebay “made in china” FTDI adapter with the CP2102 chipset. (thats the same chipset as on the nanodeshop FTDI adapter) has an wrong PCB text label on it!

The RXD header  the TXD and likewise the TXD is the RXD on the adapter. very very frustrating! found the solution thanks so this guys weblog: So after I switched the header wires, my first sketch test uploads perfectly an I have k the 2 leds blinking!

I’ve made some pictures from the faulty adapter and a simple drawing:

Be aware that you have to make an extra pin header on the PCB, the J3 DTR hole for getting a working RESET pin. Because the RST pin on the adapter  isn’t resetting your Arduino but it’s only resetting the CP2102 USB chip!.  So this are really bad silk PCB drawings but hey, it’s only 2 euro’s so what can you suspect from that..
